Burnley's Facility-Based Production Operation
At the manufacturing operation in Snydersville, individuals with barriers to employment perform work for area businesses in a nurturing, closely supervised workshop environment. Established companies such as Weiler Corporation, Sanofi-Pasteur, Patterson-Kelley and Laird Technologies provide long-term contracts as partners with Burnley.
- Employing and training individuals with disabilities since 1964.
- 75 individuals daily performing subcontract work for business and industry
The quality assembly and packaging work trainees perform at the workshop helps prepare them for jobs in the community. At the same time, this work measurably increases the area's manufacturing capacity.
Burnley Employment Program and Transition Services
Our goal is to build relationships with human resource departments at area businesses to provide vocational opportunities for adults with disabilities. The adults are known as consumers because they are “consuming” life skills and knowledge of the workplace.
For young adults with physical and mental disabilities, the transition from student to worker can be overwhelming for them, as well as their parents and/or guardians. The Burnley Employment Program's transition services provide support and training during this vital time. We believe that people with disabilities share the need to be contributing members of society and experience fulfillment in learning new skills to apply in both work and social environments.
The job coaches within the Burnley employment department assist the consumer with resume building, time management skills and transportation if needed. Most importantly, Burnley staff contact hiring managers in the community on the job-seeker's behalf. Job coaches also provide assistance with interview preparation. During this time, consumers learn and practice communication and other appropriate work-related social skills.
Burnley job coaches work closely with consumers and prospective employers when conducting varied community-based work assessments to identify individual goals, strengths, capabilities and personal learning style. After thorough assessments, the consumer and prospective employer meet to discuss a suitable and sensible job position.
Once consumers obtain employment, they receive job coaching during the first 90 days on the job. Burnley assists the consumer with identifying essential job functions, training them on specific work behaviors to the satisfaction of the employer and providing behavioral management training. If needed, we will also assist with management of financial support services. Once the consumer has reached their 90 days of employment, they may be eligible for follow-on services. This service entails periodic visits from employment department staff to assure future success.
